SPOKANE, Wash. - Scammers are traveling the country promising to pave your driveway and getting
away with your cash. That's the warning
from Spokane Valley Police, the Better Business Bureau, and the Washington State
Attorney General. They say scammers are
offering to pave your driveway and are not living up to their end of the
bargain, either not performing up to par or charging way to much for the job.
Better Business Bureau offers the following tips on what to look out for when it
comes to the pavement scam:
Reputable asphalt contractors will rarely, if ever, sell their product
they have leftover asphalt from another job.
Professional asphalt contractors know, with great accuracy, how much paving
material is needed to complete a project. Rarely will they have leftover
you to make a quick decision.
Trustworthy contractors provide a written estimate that will be valid for days
or weeks. Never hire someone on the spot. Ask for references and check
Insist on a written contract specifying in detail the work to be performed and
the agreed total price, not just price per square foot.
