Benton-Franklin Red Cross Exec. Director Announces Her Retirement

KENNEWICK, Wash. - The longtime executive director of the Benton-Franklin Red Cross announced her retirement Thursday.

Jeanne Jelke has served for 11 years in Kennewick and two years in California before that. Jelke initiated many Red Cross events, like the real heroes breakfast and the Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot at Columbia Park.

"Hope they remember me as being someone that my middle name is Miss Persistence. The cause is always the thing you've got to keep in mind," she said.

Jelke says she is sad to go but is proud of have helped so many people in the region.

    RICHLAND- Detectives are investigating after a man was jumped Saturday afternoon on a Richland bike path. The 22-year-old said he was in the area of Bellerive Drive and Steptoe Street around 11 a.m. when it happened.
