Top Five All-Time Shock-Rattlers Games

Updated: Date / Time

The Spokane Shock and Arizona Rattlers have only played against each other since 2010, but the two teams have quickly formed one of the greatest rivalries in AFL history. With today's game having playoff implications, the rivalry is clearly alive and well.

The games between these two teams have always been intense, to say the least. SWX takes a look back to the top five games that have made the competition between these two teams what it is today.

5. Shock Squeak Out a One Point Win

On July 2, 2010, the Spokane Shock beat the Rattlers 37-36, which made them the first team in the AFL to get to 10 wins that season. Spokane QB Kyle Rowley completed 58 percent of his passes and WR Huey Whittaker had six receptions for 73 yards.

4. A Road Win for the Ages

In a back and forth contest on May 7, 2010, the Shock wrapped the game up on the final play, winning 63-56. The game featured six tie scores and was won when Spokane Shock DB William Mulder intercepted the Rattlers in the end zone during the final seconds.

3. Rattlers Snag a Win in the Desert

Heading into the fourth quarter of this April 2012 game, the Shock led the Rattlers.  Unfortunately, the Shock's lead did not hold. With five minutes left, Spokane fumbled the ball, which the Rattlers took all the way down the field to score with five seconds left to win 57-53.

2. Shock Defeat Rattlers in First Round of 2010 Playoffs

In the two meetings between the Rattlers and Shock prior to this 2010 playoff game, the Shock's average margin of victory had been four points. The Shock ended up winning 57-49 and only sealed the victory in the waning seconds of the fourth quarter. After Arizona recovered a fumble, the Shock's defense held strong and forced the Rattlers to throw four incomplete passes in a row. Spokane would eventually go on to win the AFL title that season.

1. Shock Squeak Out a One Point Win: Part Two

There seems to be a common theme with all of these games against the Rattlers: The majority of them come down to the final play. This April 2011 game is no different. Down one, the Rattlers recovered an on-side kick and decided to kick a field goal to win the game. However, a high snap gave Shock DL Khreem Smith enough time to break through the line of scrimmage and block the field goal securing a 70-69 Spokane win.
