Tri-City Regional SWAT Team, Kennewick School District Team Up in Training

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Hands on training is not always easy for a SWAT team. Saturday morning, though, the Tri-City Regional SWAT team got a little help from the Kennewick School District.

Lincoln Elementary School is undergoing some major renovations but before construction begins officers are using the building to train for SWAT situations.

The doors in buildings like schools and offices are typically the same. They are stronger and harder to break down. The team practiced breaking doors that swing both in and out using different rams and crow bars to pry them open.

""It gives us a chance before they take these doors out to have them recycled and these frames to actually train on and improve our techniques," said Officer Joshua Kuhn with the Kennewick Police Department.

The officers that took part in Saturday's training will share those skills with their departments.
