CrimeStoppers Offers Kids ID Cards in Kennewick

KENNEWICK, Wash. - CrimeStoppers set up a finger printing and identification table today at Kennewick's Wal Mart.

They made prints of kids and took their pictures to make ID cards with their basic information on them. These are mostly good for parents to have in case they ever have to report their child as missing. But they also made laminated ones for the kids to keep as souvenirs.

"We know that just fingerprinting a child and giving them an ID card is not going to necessarily make them and safer, but it brings that thought to the forefront of their mind and we encourage them to talk to their children about stranger safety and not wandering off from their parents as well," said Mike Blatman of CrimeStoppers.

The service was free. CrimeStppers is funded mostly by donations and fund raisers.
