YAKIMA, Wash.-- Good news from the Yakima
Airport this week: the city recently paid off a 250-thousand dollar loan from
the county a year earlier than they expected.
City Manager Tony O'Rourke said they
managed that by not hiring a new airport manager and getting rid of a few other
Earlier this year, the city wasn't sure
it could pay off the loan on time and the city council was looking at getting
"We had to make some tough
decisions, reduce expenditures out there, and particularly to labor to control
our costs now and going forward. So, I think it sets the airport in a good
place," said O'Rourke.
The city is in the middle of an effort to
revitalize the airport and attract more flights to Yakima.
The city council will talk more about the
airport's future at a study session next month.
