UPDATE: Driver In Serious Condition After Rollover Collision Near Mead
MEAD, Wash. -
PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SPOKANE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE: On Monday night, June 17, 2013, at 7:20 p.m., Spokane County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one-vehicle rollover collision near the area of 5910 E. Peone Road. Deputies located a Dodge sedan that had driven off Peone Road, struck a power pole and rolled several times prior to coming to rest in a field.
Spokane County Traffic Detective Jack Rosenthal responded to investigate the collision. From Detective Rosenthal's investigation, he determined the 18-year-old single occupant had been traveling eastbound on Peone west of Fairview Road. Tire transfer markings on the roadway indicate the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to crossing westbound lanes of traffic and leaving the roadway.
The vehicle struck a power pole and rolled multiple times. The driver was ejected and came to final rest approximately 100 feet from the vehicle. The driver was airlifted to a local hospital where he was last reported to be in serious condition.
According to Detective Rosenthal neither alcohol nor drugs seemed to be a contributing factor. Speed and possibly distracted driving appear to be the cause of the collision. The investigation is still ongoing.
Deputies are investigating a high speed crash in the Peone Prairie area just south of Greenbluff.
Investigators say the 1998 dodge avenger was heading west on Peone Road at a high rate of speed and at some point the 18-year-old driver, who had just left his home in Mead, lost control, hit a power pole and rolled the car.
The driver, who was ejected during the crash, was found by paramedics over 100 feet away in a wheat field.
He was transported by Medstar to the hospital. We're told right now he remains in critical condition.
Deputies say Peone road between Morrell and Bruce will remain closed for the next few hours as they reconstruct the scene.
Emergency responders are on scene of a rollover crash near the intersection of Peone and Bruce Road east of Mead.
Spokane County Sheriff Deputies say the adult male struck a powerpole on Peone Rd. and rolled his car multiple times. Deputies say the man was ejected from the vehicle and found in a wheat field over 100 feet away. He was transported to the hospital by MedStar. His condition is unknown at this time.
