Inslee To Say When Skagit River Bridge Reopens

Posted: Updated:

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. (AP) - Washington Gov. Jay Inslee is visiting the Interstate 5 bridge over the Skagit River on Tuesday as the state Transportation Department prepares to open a temporary span.

Department spokesman Travis Phelps says the governor will announce when the bridge will reopen. It should be one day this week.

Phelps also says Inslee will announce what the speed limit will be. Traffic will have to slow down from freeway speed because of narrow lanes.

Inslee set a goal of reopening the bridge in mid-June after a section collapsed on May 23 when it was struck by a truck carrying an oversize load.
