Doc Hastings to Discuss FDA Rules for Fruit Growers
WASHINGTON - Congressman Doc Hastings plans to discuss food safety regulations with the House Agriculture Committee Chairman later today.
Hastings will discuss the one-size-fits-all food safety regulations that the Food and Drug Administration has proposed for fruit and vegetable growers.
Hastings says he has serious concerns that if implemented in their current form, the FDA's proposed rules will be nearly impossible for tree fruit growers to meet, and risk putting the growers out of business.
The Congressman says he has heard from both fruit growers and irrigation districts in Central Washington about the problems with the water testing requirements included in the bill.
