UMCDF Plans Another Workforce Reduction

Posted: Updated:

HERMISTON, Ore. - Work has run out for almost another 200 people at the Umatilla Chemical Agent Disposal Facility near Hermiston.

The facility plans to cut 160 positions Thursday. This is the largest group to leave since the plant finished destroying chemical weapons in October 2011.

Some employees are expected to transfer to other jobs within URS, the company that built and operates the plant. Another 95 employees are expected to leave by mid-summer or early fall once the site is ready for demolition work.

The reduction will leave about 270 employees at the plant.
