YAKIMA, Wash.--A group of nurses and community members are joining forces to raise awareness about patient care at Yakima Regional Hospital.
They began picketing on the corner of Chestnut and 8th Avenue before noon today to inform the public about their safety concerns.
Nurses say corporate executives are not accommodating the nurse's needs to take care of patients and themselves, including giving them enough time off.
"It's not safe patient care", Tashina Nunez, a nurse at Yakima Regional Hospital said. "The units we have here at Yakima Regional are very skilled nurses. They are very skilled units that require nurses to have a large set of skills and the education and training for those skills."
NBC Right Now reached out to Yakima Regional Hospital to hear what they had to say.
A representative said the hospital is committed to providing the best care and is currently in negotiations with nurses to reach an acceptable contract.
