SPOKANE, Wash. -

Two men walking by the Wendy's on North Division Saturday morning were in the right place at the right time when they heard a kitten's cries for help coming from a pipe next to a utility pole. They checked it out and could hear the kitty, but could not see it. So they called SpokAnimal.

Once officers with SpokAnimal arrived, they tried to rescue the kitty by dropping a rope down the pipe, hoping it would grab on. It did not.

Because of the pipe's position next to a power pole, Avista was called in to assist in the effort. Using a wire with a loop on the end of it, and exercising a lot of patience, soon enough a little black kitten was pulled from the small PVC pipe by an Avista employee.

Officers with SpokAnimal said she appeared to be about six weeks old and estimated she was probably in the pipe since last night. SpokAnimal will take her back to their facility, and give her the medical attention she needs. After she is given the medical clearance, she'll be available for adoption through SpokAnimal.
