Spokane man missing after swimming at Palouse Falls
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Wash. - Franklin County Sheriff's deputies say a man from Spokane who went swimming at Palouse Falls Saturday evening got pulled into deeper water and did not surface. Deputies, fire crews, Columbia Basin Dive Rescue teams and Washington State Park Rangers responded to a call of a person who had gone into the water under Palouse Falls and had not surfaced around 5:30 p.m.

Islamic State suicide bomber kills 48 in Afghan capital
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - A suicide bomber struck a voter registration center in the Afghan capital on Sunday, killing at least 48 people in an attack claimed by the Islamic State group. Public Health Ministry spokesman Wahid Majro said another 112 people were wounded in Sunday’s attack, updating an earlier toll.

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - Spokane Valley Firefighters and volunteers took time on Saturday Morning to make sure homes were properly equipped with smoke alarms. They tested existing alarms and installing new ones as needed "It's a unique opportunity for us to try an make a difference," said Rick Freier with the Spokane Valley Fire Department.

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) - Mitt Romney has been forced into a Republican primary for a U.S. Senate seat in Utah as he looks to restart his political career by replacing long-serving Sen. Orrin Hatch. Romney already has collected enough signatures to advance to a GOP primary. But if he had won the vote of party delegates Saturday, he would have bypassed a primary altogether.

WICKLIFFE, Ohio (AP) - Police say a 2-year-old girl has been accidentally shot and killed by her mother at a hotel outside of Cleveland. Wickliffe police in a statement say emergency crews were called to an Econo Lodge around 11 p.m. Friday. A police officer and paramedics tried to resuscitate the girl, who was pronounced dead a short time later at a hospital.

World's oldest person dies in Japan at age of 117

An official in the town of Kikai says Nabi Tajima died in a hospital on Saturday shortly before 8 p.m. She had been hospitalized since January. Tajima was born on Aug. 4, 1900, and reportedly had more than 160 descendants, including great-great-great grandchildren.
