Helicopter Crashes in Grant County Orchard

Posted: Updated:

GRANT COUNTY, Wash. - A pilot from Tumwater survived a helicopter crash in an orchard between Royal City and George Monday morning.

The Grant County Sheriff's Office says 31 year old Christopher Iezzoni was flying over a cherry orchard near County Roads 9 and M-Southwest when his helicopter got tangled in bird control netting and went down.

Iezzoni had back injuries and trouble breathing, so an ambulance crew took him to a hospital in Quincy.  The helicopter had extensive damage.

The Grant County Sheriff says the pilot's injuries are not serious.

The FAA is investigating the crash.
