Zero Tolerance for Boating Under the Influence Emphasis Campaign

Posted: Updated:

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Marine law enforcement agencies from all over Washington State will participate in a national special emphasis campaign this weekend to cite people who are operating boats while under the influence of alcohol.

The "Operation Dry Water" campaign will take place June 28th, 29th and 30th.

The goal of "Operation Dry Water" is to prevent injury and death in accidents, resulting from people drinking alcohol or doing drugs while operating boats.

According to Washington State Parks Boating Programs, at least 39 people were killed in boating accidents where alcohol use was a contributing factor between 2007 and 2013.

Boat operators may be cited if their blood alcohol concentration is above the state limit of .08.
