Troopers Investigate Deputy Involved Collision Near Selah

YAKIMA, Wash.--The State Patrol is investigating a collision involving a Kittitas County Deputy that sent two people to the hospital.
The accident happened last Saturday around 3 p.m.
The State Patrol said four motorcycles were driving southbound on State Route 821 through the Yakima River Canyon. Three motorcycles passed Kittitas County Deputy Mark Rickey right before he made a U-Turn. Rickey then collided with a fourth motorcycle, sending a young couple from Selah to the hospital.
Troopers said it's rare for an officer to be involved in a collision like this, but they're working hard to get all the facts and determine who is at fault.
"The law enforcement officers in general are highly trained drivers and are very rarely in collisions compared to how many miles they drive," said Trooper Darren Wright with Washington State Patrol. "So with many miles driven it does occur occasionally, and we have to move on from there."
Patient updates weren't available for 24-year-old Donald Sadler and 25-year-old Mahanna Sadler.
The original press release sparked some controversy when it didn't disclose that a patrol car was involved, but troopers said that information was never intentionally left out.
