The State Patrol said four motorcycles were driving
southbound on State Route 821 through the Yakima River Canyon. Three motorcycles
passed Kittitas County Deputy Mark Rickey right before he made a U-Turn. Rickey
then collided with a fourth motorcycle, sending a young couple from Selah to the
Troopers said it's rare for an officer to be
involved in a collision like this, but they're working hard to get all the facts
and determine who is at fault.
"The law enforcement officers in general are highly
trained drivers and are very rarely in collisions compared to how many miles
they drive," said Trooper Darren Wright with Washington State Patrol. "So with
many miles driven it does occur occasionally, and we have to move on from
