Woman, Two Sons Trapped in Columbia Park Restroom

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. - A woman from Kennewick says she and her two young sons got trapped for two hours when the door of a city park restroom jammed.

Jennifer Ayala says the metal door to the Columbia Park restroom wouldn't budge when she tried to get out on Monday night.

She says she tried unscrewing a window grate with her car key, waving a shirt trying to get attention, and finally screaming in desperation, which upset her sons, 3 and 5 years old, and made their Chihuahua howl.

Ayala says finally two women heard her and found a man who was eventually able to get the door open.

The parks department says the door doesn't have a lock and is usually left open. The department sent a crew to fix it.
