MID-COLUMBIA, Wash. - The Meals on Wheels Association of America is honoring the Mid-Columbia Meals on Wheels with a national award.

The Mid-Columbia chapter will receive a Bronze Award and a $250.00 grant for participating in the National Mayors for Meals Event.

Mayor John Fox of Richland, Mayor Matt Watkins of Pasco, Mayor Gary Walton of Connell and Mayor ProTem Don Britain of Kennewick recently attended a breakfast where they learned about how Meals on Wheels serves their communities, as well as the current and future needs of seniors in the area.

Program directors say in 2012, nearly 300 volunteers helped serve and deliver more than 147,000 meals; volunteers gave over 22,000 hours and drove 75,618 miles to provide meals and wellness checks to over 1800 individuals.
