Pasco Police Department Welcomes New Furry Officer

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, Wash. -- The Pasco Police Department welcomes a new member to the department, and this one has paws!

HAPO Community Credit Union donated $12,000 to the City of Pasco Wednesday morning to purchase the dog.  The dog's name is Hapo, in gratitude of the donation.

He's a two-year-old German Shepherd from Southern California.  Hapo is almost done with his training and should hit the streets next week.

He was hand-picked among 40 other dogs in his class.

"For our community we like to have a police dog that has a great sense of smell and drive to find things (bad guys, drugs, etc.), but we also need an approachable dog that's got a great demeanor with the community," said Captain Ken Roske of the Pasco Police Department.

Hapo replaces Falco, another police dog with Pasco Police.

He joins Lemon, a German Shepherd with two years of police experience.
