KENNEWICK, Wash. - Heating and cooling companies are bracing for what is sure to be a busy few weeks. H-VAC experts say the number one culprit when it comes to broken down cooling systems and it's something you can easily fix yourself.
Bob Rhodes of Bob Rhodes Heating and Air said the filter inside the AC unit should be checked every 30 days. Yes, even in the winter.
The more efficient systems have to be changed more often because they trap more dirt. If the filter is clogged then the system has to work harder which can lead to breakdowns. Still, you can call a professional and they are ready for you.
"Well it's the busy time. So we basically work until we get it all done and work long hours, but it makes up for in May when it was 50 degrees and there wasn't that much work going on," Rhodes said.
Rhodes said cooling systems work via air flow so making sure the outside unit is clear of debris is also important. His company does charge a fee to come check out your unit plus the cost of parts and depending on the company, weekend calls can be more pricey.
