PENDLETON, Ore. - Campers hoping to spend their Fourth of July weekend at Jubilee Lake Campground will need to make new plans.
The USDA Forest Service says the campground will not be opening for the weekend because heavy rain has delayed completion of a tree removal project. Walla Walla District Ranger Mike Rassbach says workers need to remove
more than 350 hazardous trees from the 50-acre recreation area before it
can safely open for the summer season.
The project was on schedule for
the July 4th opening until multiple days of heavy rain forced the
contractor to shut down operations.
The campground will not be opening until July 12th.
Several other campgrounds in the area will be open and operating for the holiday
weekend including Target Meadows, Woodward, and Woodland campgrounds. Dispersed
camping along forest roads is also an option.
