Staying Safe While Cooling Down at the Pool

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- With temperatures in the triple-digits this weekend, many people will be heading to the pool. Before jumping in, keep some safety tips in mind.

Lifeguards at Franklin Pool in Yakima said you should drink lots of water, wear sunscreen, do not swim alone, and most importantly, make sure you are safe around others at public pools.

Do not run when near the pool and do not grab onto anyone if you are not a strong swimmer.

Lifeguards want you to keep all these in mind while you are trying to have fun and keep cool.

"It's getting hot outside, make sure you're staying cool, make sure you're staying smart, drink lots of water wear lots of sunscreen.  Have fun with summer, it's good," said lifeguard Louie Healy.

Supervision is key when swimming at a pool or in a lake or river.

Always make sure people know where you are and what you are doing when you go into the water.

Franklin Pool also offers swimming lessons in the mornings; just call the pool to sign-up.
