Mendez Pitches Indians To Win Over Dust Devils

Updated:

Brandon Garcia hit two doubles and scored twice as the Spokane Indians beat Tri-City 3-1 in the opener of a three-game set.

The Indians kicked off the scoring in the third when Garcia doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a Saquan Johnson single.

Garcia walked in the fifth and came home on a Chris Garia sacrifice fly to give the Indians a 2-0 lead. The Dust Devils cut into that lead in the bottom of the frame, but could only plate one.

Spokane picked up an insurance run in the sixth.

Yohander Mendez continued his run of solid outings for the Indians by pitching five innings of one-run ball. Mendez's ERA is now at 1.02.
