Spokane Firefighters were able to extinguish a basement fire Monday night near the intersection of Atlantic and Carlisle in north Spokane.
Fire officials say the three occupants of the home were in the backyard when they heard smoke detectors going off in their basement and saw smoke coming from the windows just before 9:00pm. They called the fire department while trying to extinguish the flames with a garden hose through window.
Once firefighters arrived, they quickly put out the flames and checked for any extension through the rest of the home. The flames were confined to the basement, but the upper floors did sustain significant smoke damage. The home is uninhabitable, and fire officials said the Red Cross may be helping out the occupants.
No injuries were reported and right now the cause is unknown.
