Vacant Oregon Jobs "Hard to Fill"

Posted: Updated:

Eugene, ore. - Oregon employers say nearly half of the vacant jobs in the state are proving difficult to fill.

The state Employment Department says the hard-to-fill jobs likely require education beyond high school and experience, and they tend to be higher paying than the jobs that are easy to fill.

Many of the jobs on the "difficult to fill" list, include jobs in health care, manufacturing and transportation, such as physical therapists, nurses, welders, computer-controlled machine operators, tool operators, truck drivers and mechanics.

The employment department says employers blame a lack of qualified candidates and unfavorable working conditions as the top two reasons they can't fill positions.
