Beams and Cement for New SVDP Food Bank

PASCO, Wash. Despite the triple-digit day, workers are making headway on the new Saint Vincent de Paul food bank and community service facility in Pasco.

Early Tuesday morning workers poured cement for the walk-in freezer of the 16,000 square foot building between 5th and 6th Streets. When the center opens late this year or early next year it will also include space to help families with clothing, emergency utilities and social services.  Managers say they serve about 700 families a week.

Saint Vincent de Paul had to move out its old building on West Lewis to make room for the city's new overpass.

The fundraising committee says it has raised in private donations more than half of the building's $1.5 million dollar price tag.
