A New Marketing Strategy For the Yakima Airport

YAKIMA, Wash.-- The city is working on trying to start a marketing strategy to help gain more attention, and bring more people to the conveniently located airport. 

From all over the city, the Yakima Airport gets people from point A to point B, but the city wants to make some changes to what it has to offer.

Sean Hawkins is the Manager for Economic Development in Yakima, and is trying to get the airport more attention and money.  He is applying to get a $400,000 federal grant to go towards marketing the airport.

"It would be a pool of money we can use to promote whether through TV commercials, radio commercials, a variety of different ways the air service here," Hawkins said.

Hawkins wants to also add another flight to the airports schedule.

"If you miss that 5:00 flight out to Seattle, you're going to wait all the way to 11:00, it's those gaps we really want to work on," he said.

He wants to add the other flight between the 5:00 p.m. and the 11:00 p.m. flights.

But if this is going to happen, Hawkins says a consistent effort needs to be made.

He says the airport is a service to Yakima, and if there is not enough money and people coming in, they might lose a flight instead of gaining one like they want.
