KHQ.COM - Celebrate American Independence Day in Coeur d'Alene for the region's largest 4th of July festival, presented by Numerica.

The day kicks off with the American Heroes Parade sponsored by Knudtsen Chevrolet at 11:00 on Sherman Ave. Afterwards, spend the afternoon at Coeur d'Alene City Park with activities featuring live music, food vendors and games sponsored by Coeur d'Alene Casino Resort Hotel.

Then, stay to watch North Idaho's largest fireworks display Downtown on Lake Coeur d'Alene at dusk (about 9:45-10:00pm), which can be seen for miles along the lake shore. While you're out there having fun, don't forget some of these safety tips:

-Fireworks and alcohol are prohibited in Coeur d'Alene city parks and on Tubbs Hill due to fire hazard.

-You can report missing children or bring missing children to the Police Fire and Safety building near the city park.

-You can only use nonariel fireworks in Kootenai County unless you have a special permit.

If CDA events don't interest you, there's plenty more to choose from:

-Post Falls: Firework Extravangza on July 3rd beginning at 5 pm

-Athol: Silverwood Theme Park, fireworks begin at dusk

-Spirit Lake: Old Fashioned Fourth of July celebration in the city park beginning at 10 am, fireworks at 10 pm

-Bayview: Bayview Daze all weekend, fireworks on Lake Pend Orielle and more

-Bonner's Ferry: parade downtown, train rides, competitive family games, live music, and fireworks

-Sandpoint: fireworks at City Beach

    GENEVA - The World Health Organization says that compulsively playing video games now qualifies as a new mental health condition, in a move that some critics warn may risk stigmatizing its young players. In its latest revision to an international disease classification manual, the U.N. health agency said Monday that classifying "Gaming Disorder" as a separate condition will "serve a public health.."

    HELENA, Mont. - The mystery is over: Montana wildlife officials confirm that an unusual-looking animal shot in central Montana was actually a wolf.    Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials initially weren't certain what the creature was when a rancher shot it near Denton in May. They noted the legs, front claws and canine teeth were shorter and its ears bigger than normally seen on wolves.
