The Tri-City Dust Devils are not having the year you'd hope for specifically on the mound. The team is dead last in the Northwest League in Earned Run Average posting a 4.17. The Dust Devils also have had difficultly striking guys out. Only one team has fewer strikeouts. But new manager Drew Saylor says the strikeouts aren't an issue.
"The earned run average thing is going to get better when we stop walking people and I mean that's the biggest thing you can't give free bases to the opposition cause they're going to find ways to score and challenging the pitchers to try and throw four hits in a row to score a run. Cause it's tough, it's tough to be hitters in this game. You know it's just part of growing up. It's learning that having poor contact is more important than striking people out. And that's a tough thing for people to learn" said Saylor.
