Local Yakima Businesses Want More Foot Traffic

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- On Friday, some local business owners said they wanted to see several improvements as part of the Yakima Downtown Master Plan that will help increase the number of people heading downtown.

Local business owners said the master plan's goal should be getting more people interested in going downtown.

Jar Arcand's restaurant is on the main strip of Yakima Avenue, and he said he would like to see an ongoing effort to get people coming to the area.

He also wants to see teamwork within the community to come up with a united plan for the area.

"It's going to take money, lots of money, it's also going to take unity from the community, of people together with passion in our hearts to really pull strong and go with it," Arcand said.

He also thinks there should be a solid economic development plan in place.

"I don't think there are enough economic dollars in the community to service what we have and take it to the next level," he said.

Travis Heitman is the owner of The Sports Center in Yakima. He said the main things he wants to see is more parking and more stuff to do.

"Parking is a big thing, but I'd like to see something were it makes families want to come downtown; something for the kids," Heitman said.
