On July 7th at approximately 9:00 AM, the Kootenai County Dive Rescue Team, The Side Scan Sonar Team and Recreational Safety Deputies resumed the search for the 14 year old juvenile male that drowned in Blue Lake. When the teams arrived on scene, they concentrated their search to the area where the boat the juvenile was on initially stopped. The Side Scan Sonar equipment was deployed into the water and divers searched the weedy area around the perimeter of the lake shore.

At approximately 4:00 PM the Side Scan Sonar Team located a "Target" that was possibly the victim. The Dive Rescue Team responded and conducted a dive of the location of the "Target". Dive Team members confirmed the target was that of the missing juvenile. The Juvenile was located in 15 feet of water.

The investigation is still ongoing, however all indications are pointing to this being a tragic accident. An autopsy will be performed to determine the actual cause of death. The name of the victim is being withheld at this time due to the victim being a juvenile.

Kootenai County Sheriff's Office Press Release:

On July 6th at approximately 6:00 PM, Marine Deputies from the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, Kootenai County Dive Rescue Team, Harrison QRU and personnel from the East Side Fire Department responded to Blue Lake off the Coeur d' Alene River for a reported drowning.

When units arrived on scene, they learned a 14 year old male from Spokane, Washington was swimming in Blue Lake with three other children. As the subjects were swimming near a boat, which was not in operation, the 14 year old juvenile got separated from the other three. A short time later, the three other juveniles were not able to see the 14 year old on the surface anymore. They continued to search the area but were not able to locate the missing swimmer. A boat that was in the area was able to make a 911 phone call and the Dive Rescue Team was paged out. Divers arrived on scene and began searching the lake but after over 2 hours of searching they were not able to locate the missing juvenile. The search was suspended due to darkness.

The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office will resume the search on Sunday, June 7th in the morning using both the Dive Rescue Team and the Side Scan Sonar Team. It should be noted that Blue Lake is a remote lake that is only assessable via boat.

The investigation is still ongoing however alcohol is not a factor in this accident. The juvenile was boating with his father, siblings and friends at the time of the accident.
