Furloughs to Begin this Week at JBLM

JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash., - Furloughs for civilian employees are scheduled to begin this week at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
    
More than 10,000 workers will have off one unpaid day each week for 11 weeks through September because of reductions in federal spending.

The furloughs will reduce services such as housing, counseling and academic courses.  Troops also may experience delays in transportation, receiving ammunition or equipment maintenance.

    RICHLAND, WA- Four fires sparked near the Queensgate exits Sunday afternoon. Duty Chief Scott Hawley with Benton County Fire District 2 said they all sparked within thirty minutes of each other starting at 1:30 p.m. The fires stretched from the 3B exit and up I-182 and caused one lane of the highway to be shut down.     KENNEWICK, WA- A man was found dead Sunday morning after his car went down into a ditch and hit a rock wall. The Benton County Sheriff's Office said it happened in the area of Badger Road and South Webber Canyon Road. 41-year-old Paul S. Samson had been driving southbound on Webber Canyon Road when he drifted off the edge of the roadway, went down into a ditch, and hit the rock wall embankment head on.  Samson died at the scene.     KENNEWICK, WA- A woman is dead after a tree branch fell onto her at the Ye Merrie Greenwood Renaissance Faire Saturday. Around 2:46 p.m. witnesses say they saw 37-year-old Stephanie L. Judd and her son were sitting on a bench under the tree when her son heard something snap. He got up and within seconds the limb broke free and fell down onto Judd.
