Keller Ferry Makes Final Columbia River Crossing

KELLER, Wash. (AP) - A ferry that has carried vehicles across the Columbia River upstream of the Grand Coulee Dam for 65 years made its last trip on Sunday.

The aging Martha S. was known as the Keller Ferry. It was operated by the state Transportation Department to connect Lincoln and Ferry counties on Highway 21.

The ferry had a crew of 2 and could carry up to a dozen cars on the crossing of a little more than a mile.

The Seattle Times reports (http://bit.ly/11vBbQq) there will be no Keller Ferry for five weeks while ramps are improved for a new ferry to be dedicated Aug. 14.

Without the ferry, drivers have a 60-mile detour.

    CALDER, Idaho - Idaho State Police say 35-year-old Fernando A Camayo was driving a John Deer Gator UTV Wednesday evening when he backed it over an embankment.  The vehicle overturned, killing Camayo.  Police say he was not wearing  seatbelt or helmet at the time and they are continuing to investigate the accident.
