Move-Out Deadline Approaching for Senator and Cascade Apts in Yakima

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash. - The move-out deadline is fast approaching for people living in the Senator and Cascade Apartments in downtown Yakima.

The county's Human Services Department is trying to help the almost 200 residents who need to vacate by noon on July 12th. Officials say the apartments have violated health and safety codes for several months..

Now, county and city employees are working hard to help the mostly low-income tenants find a new place to live.

"The biggest issue we have right now in such a short period of time is trying to identify landlords to be able to take in these folks in a short period of time," said Tim Sullivan with Yakima County Human Services.

Residents who still need help can meet with human services at the county's conference center, located in the old Pizza Hut on north 1st St. from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday.

County officials have also contacted Red Cross in case emergency shelters need to be set up after the Friday deadline.
