2013 Northwest Air Tour Takes Off in Richland

RICHLAND, Wash.-- The 2013 Northwest Air Tour takes off from the Richland airport this Sunday.

Richland is the first stop for the tour that offers a look at 30 antique, classic and experimental planes.

The tour is organized by the Puget Sound Antique Aircraft Club.

The event aims to recreate the historic air tours of the 1930's that brought aviation to communities across the U.S.

"Antique aircraft, that's not something you normally see. Approximately 30 aircraft in the same location with the same interest with a close knit group of people who like to do this as a hobby," said John Haakenson, Port of Benton.

The planes will fly away Monday to Pendleton for their second stop on the eight stage tour.

The event starts Sunday at noon and continues until 4pm at the Richland Airport.
