Local Technical School Shows Off New Expansion

YAKIMA, Wash.-- The Yakima Valley Technical Skills Center will now provide a state-of-the-art educational environment.

On Friday, the school held an open house for parents and community members to show off what the $23 million expansion project will provide for students.

Y-V Tech added 61,000 square feet to the facility and several new programs like green energy and pre-engineering, as well as state-of-the-art classrooms that are more accessible to students.

Craig Dwight is the school's Director and said it has taken a while to get to this point, but the school is now ready to start providing the education more students want and need.

"It's taken 8 years to get this far and we actually have occupancy now, so we're starting to move our stuff in.  We don't have everything here, but we're getting there," Dwight said.

The faculty's main goal is to get kids out into the work force after they finish the program, and with the new facility, that goal will become even easier to reach.

The expansion project will double the campus size to 106,000 square feet, and will provide a better education environment.

The school hopes the student body will grow to 12,000 once everything is complete.
