BENTON CITY, Wash.- Vineyards in the Tri-Cities are always busy with tourists on the weekends, but Saturday one local vineyard operated a bit differently than most Saturdays.
Visitors bought tickets for Dawn's Bikini Bash. They could taste wine, eat BBQ food and relax, listening to live music on the beautiful vineyard estate. They could even take a few swings on the three-hole golf course, where they held a tournament. It was all in the name of Dawn, the bikini wearing fiancé of owner Joel Mackay who passed away after losing her battle with cancer.
"She was my fiancé and she helped me put this vineyard in," explained Mackay. "She helped me plant it, prune, tie and harvest it. She always did it in her bikini."
Dawn isn't around anymore, but her bikini still is. It's hung up in the tasting room. A picture of her in her famous bikini is featured on the front of the bottle for one of the rare varieties of wine grapes grown on the vineyard. The money collected at today's event will all benefit the Tri-Cities Cancer Center.
