Shock Win In Jacksonville Behind Dominant Defense

Updated:

For all the fireworks Spokane's offense provides, it's been the defense that has anchored the team.

Saturday was no different.

The Shock defense came up with four turnovers, including a pair of early game-changing interceptions, as it led Spokane to a 62-40 rout of the Sharks in Jacksonville.

Leading 21-13 midway through the second quarter, Terence Moore returned an interception nine yards for a touchdown. Less than a minute later, Paul Stephens replicated the nine-yard pick-six and the Shock (12-4) quickly had a 35-13 advantage.

Spokane turned the defensive play-making in the second quarter into a 41-20 halftime lead and the Sharks (10-6)never were able to recover.

The Shock defense also came up with a pair of other turnovers: An interception by Terrance Sanders and a fumble recovery by Terrance Taylor that was forced loose by Diyral Briggs. Spokane also came up with three sacks on Jacksonville quarterback Kyle Rowley.

Spokane quarterback Erik Meyer threw for six touchdowns and ran for another. Arvell Nelson had five catches for 38 yards and four touchdowns.

The Shock now return home for their final two regular season games. With a playoff spot already in hand, the Shock are still fighting for home-field advantage.
