Indians Can't Contain Dust Devils, Fall 4-1

Posted: Updated:

Spokane, WA - One ejection, two Tri-City doubles and a few untimely Spokane errors on Monday night gave the Indians a 4-1 loss to the Dust Devils on Baseball Vacation Giveaway Night presented by Azteca Mexican Restaurants and K102 Country.

After Indians manager Tim Hulett was ejected in the third inning for disputing an umpire decision, the Indians were able to get on the board first thanks to a wild pitch that scored Cam Schiller from third.

In the top half of the fifth inning, an error by shortstop Alberto Triunfel ended up allowing two runs to score. Collin Wiles (1-3) allowed one more run in the frame - an RBI double to Dust Devils centerfielder Kyle Von Tungeln. Wiles lasted four innings, allowing just the one run and striking out a season-high seven batters. He lowered his ERA to 2.89.

Two more errors by left fielder Saquan Johnson in the sixth inning let the Dust Devils plate its fourth and final run.

Relief pitchers Richard Alvarez, Cody Ege and Justin Sprenger held Tri-City to three hits and zero runs for the remainder of the game.

Catcher Joe Jackson, the great-great-grandnephew of Shoelesss Joe Jackson, made his Avista Stadium debut going 2 for 3 with one double. Schiller also collected two hits as right fielder Ryan Cordell added one double to his resume.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, July 16th, the Indians will host the Dust Devils on Dollars in Your Dog Night presented by Mirabeau Park Hotel and Hot 96.9. Buy an Avista Stadium hot dog and look inside the wrapper for your chance to win cash and great prizes. Plus, stick around after the game for another edition of Circle the Bases courtesy of Supercuts!
