Spaulding Business Park in Richland Successful

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND, Wash- Spaulding Business Park was previously a place where people would drop off their junk but now almost 10 years later those 31 acres of dried brush are worth 26 million dollars of taxable property.

"It's been a significant transition of the property. From property that wasn't really valued, the private sector didn't see the opportunities, now to property that has not only within the Spaulding park proper, but there is new investments that's taking place as a result of this area being revitalized," said Tana Bader Inglima, Port of Kennewick Director of Governmental Relations and Marketing.

The Port of Kennewick initially invested $2.6 million to clear the land and construct the business park.

"The investment that the port made on behalf of our tax payers really tipped this neighborhood and created an entirely new waterfront area for the community," said Bader.

The park has already added 325 private sector jobs and about 850 permanent jobs are expected at the full completion of the project, many of those jobs are in the health care field.

"This location is a very central location so it makes it really nice for those employees who are having to travel back and forth from the building, it's just a really centralized spot for them," said Leslie Streeter, The Chaplaincy Director of Marketing.

This investment has also benefited Richland residents

"When the port sells property to the private sector, those businesses then are paying taxes on the property and the money that they spend actually goes to support the schools, the libraries, the hospitals, the fire districts," said Bader
