KENNEWICK, WA – In conjunction with USA Hockey, Tri-City Americans' General Manager/Governor Bob Tory announced today that 16-year-old defenseman Brandon Carlo has been added to the U.S. Under-18 Select Team that will compete at the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament August 5-10 in Breclav, Czech Republic and Piestany, Slovakia.

Carlo, a 6'4 180-pound defenseman from Colorado Springs, Colorado, spent the 2012-13 season competing as a member of the Colorado Thunderbirds U-16 team. He appeared in 41 games and was the top scoring defenseman on the team, collecting 10 goals, 47 points and 58 penalty minutes. Carlo, who was drafted in the 10th Round (214th overall) by Tri-City in the 2011 Bantam Draft, was recalled on March 11 and spent the remainder of the 2012-13 WHL season and 2013 WHL Playoffs with the Americans.  Carlo appeared in all 5 playoff games, making his WHL debut on March 22 in Game 1 of Tri-City's First Round playoff series with the Spokane Chiefs and recorded his first WHL goal in that game.

Carlo will join 3 other WHL players, the Portland Winterhawks' Paul Bittner, Keegan Iverson and Dominic Turgeon, and is one of 22 players named to the team after participating in the Boys' Select 17 Player Development Camp June 28-July 3 in Williamsville, New York.  The 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament will include teams from Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.  Team USA finished seventh in last year's tournament, but has finished in the top three of the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 10 times since the tournament began in 1991, including a first-place finish in 2003.
