RICHLAND, Wash. (AP) - A company that handles radioactive and hazardous waste in south-central Washington has agreed to pay a penalty of $187,620 under a settlement with the Environmental Protection Agency.
The EPA says that Perma-Fix Northwest Richland Inc. stored waste in an unpermitted area for longer than regulations allow. The alleged violations were discovered during a 2010 inspection.
The EPA said in a statement Tuesday that Perma-Fix has addressed the violations and improved waste handling operations since the inspection. The company has 30 days to pay the penalty.
