UMATILLA, Ore. - Two Rivers Correctional Institution will resume regular visiting beginning Friday, July 19th, for all inmates except those living in housing units 2 and 14.
In response to several confirmed cases of chickenpox on July 12, the institution took several measures to reduce the risk of the virus spreading to other inmates and visitors. That meant canceling regular visiting and the Families Aiding In Rehabilitation (FAIR) events that were scheduled for July 13, 14, 20, and Aug. 3.
Officials moved the inmates with chickenpox to the infirmary and placed the general population units in which they had been living on modified operations; meaning, inmates who live in Units 2 and 14 will not receive visits until further notice.
The institution has rescheduled the FAIR events for Aug. 10, 17, 24, and 25, pending no further confirmed cases of chickenpox.
TRCI is a medium and minimum security facility in Umatilla that houses approximately 1,800 men in custody. It provides a range of correctional services and programs, including education, treatment programs, pre-release and transitional services, and work opportunities. TRCI opened in March 2000.
