RICHLAND, Wash. - Dozens of wakeboarders and spectators were at Wye Park in Richland Saturday for the 5th Annual Wake The Desert Wakeboarding Competition.
Wakeboarders, ranging from beginners to advanced class, took to the Columbia river to show off their skills.Nearly 50 people participated in the competition and were judged based on skill, technique and difficulty.
"We live in some of the best conditions for wakeboarding in the nation right here on the Columbia River and the 360 days of sun around here makes it the perfect spot to wakeboard," said Taylor Ivey, the organizer of the competition.
The Tri-City Riders put on the competition, with the help of several local community sponsors. Organizers say the event is meant to showcase the growing sport of wakeboarding.
