Tri-Cities Job Numbers for June

KENNEWICK, Wash. - The Employment Security Department says Washington state added several hundred jobs in the month of June.

The June 2013 unemployment rate dropped from 8.5% to 8.4% in the Kennewick-Pasco-Richland Metropolitan Statistical Area. This marked two consecutive years of highest unemployment rates for June in the past twenty years.

The Benton County unemployment rate remained unchanged at 8.2% from May to June, and in Franklin County the jobless rate decreased from 9.2% to 8.6%.

Overall, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Washington state remained unchanged at 6.8% in June.

Non-farm employment in the Kennewick-Pasco-Richland area increased by 700 jobs in June. Private industries added 900 jobs, while government services lost 200 jobs over the month, mainly due to state and federal budget cuts.  Construction and manufacturing added jobs over the month 200 and 400, respectively. Leisure and hospitality along with professional and business services added jobs over the month, 200 and 300 respectively, while other industries remained flat or decreased in payrolls over the month.
