Pitcher's Duel Favors Canadians

Updated:

The Spokane Indians managed just three hits on Tuesday night in a 2-0 loss to the Vancouver Canadians at Avista Stadium.

The Indians managed just one hit -- a single by Evan Van Hoosier in the second inning -- through the first six frames. Kevin Torres doubled in the seventh, but was stranded there after Van Hoosier grounded out to end the inning. Spokane's third and final hit came in the ninth on a leadoff single by Janluis Castro, but he was left at first.

The Indians did not have a baserunner reach third all night.

Jeremy Gabryszwski (4-1) got the win for his five innings of shutout ball for the Canadians. Gabryszwski struck out two and walked none. Chuck Ghysels pitched around Castro's hit in the ninth for his fifth save of the season.

Kelvin Vasquez walked five, but gave the Indians 3 2/3 scoreless innings. Vasquez gave up three hits and struck out three.

Abel De Los Santos was credited for the loss after giving up two runs in 3 1/3 innings. De Los Santos did manage to strike out eight. Justin Sprenger added two scoreless innings of relief for the Indians.

Spokane continues its brief three-game homestand against Vancouver tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.
