Businesses Working to Give Outdoor Experiences to Special Needs Kids

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, Wash.--Cabela's in Yakima and the Memorial Foundation are joining forces to give kids with special needs a great outdoor experience.
Participants in Children's Village "Summer Kids Club" program spent the day at Sarg Hubbard Park fishing with their family and friends.
Coordinators said this was the first fishing experience for many of the kids.
"It allows them the opportunity to maybe learn a little patience because they've got to just sit and wait," said Amy Berkheimer, with the Yakima Children's Village "One2One" program. "It allows opportunities for them to talk with their family and their friends."
Coordinators said nearly 30 kids participated Wednesday.
The Children's Village Summer Kids Club hosts several community outings for kids with special needs.
