UPDATE: Spokane County Sheriff's Office: Teen Arrested For Felony Hit & Run

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: Walsh's bond has been set at $5,000. His arraignment is set for August 7th at 9 am.

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SPOKANE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE: On Wednesday night, July 24th, 2013, at about 11:50 p.m., Spokane County Sheriff's Deputy Ryan Truman responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision at N. Atlantic and Hoerner Ave. The complainant reported that a pickup struck a pedestrian walking on Hoerner and left the scene.

The complainant said he was out by his garage and saw the adult female walking westbound on Hoerner.  He said he saw the suspect, later identified as 19-year-old Kelly Walsh, driving his truck westbound on Hoerner very close to the curb. He said he saw the female get hit from behind by the truck. As he was calling 911 he said he saw Walsh run over to the victim, hug her, then drive away in his truck.

He was able to provide the license plate number to 911 as Walsh drove away from the scene.  Another neighbor heard the collision, ran outside and heard Walsh tell the victim his mom was a nurse and that he was going to go get her.  Walsh never returned. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Deputy Truman and T. Smith responded to Walsh's residence where they contacted Walsh and his mother. Walsh's truck was inside the garage and Deputy Truman was able to see fresh rub marks on the front, passenger side corner and hood as the rest of the truck was dirty.

Initially Walsh and his mother denied Walsh had hit a pedestrian. Ultimately Walsh's mother told Deputy Truman her son told her he struck a pedestrian and their plan was to call their attorney in the morning. This information was passed on to Walsh as he was placed under arrest for felony Hit and Run.

Walsh did not cooperate with Deputy Truman when he attempted to place handcuffs on his wrists causing he and Deputy Smith to escort Walsh to the ground so he could be safely handcuffed. Walsh was transported back to the location of the collision where the witnesses positively identified him as the driver of the truck.

Walsh was booked into the Spokane County Jail on the felony charge of Hit and Run with injury and the misdemeanor charge of Resisting Arrest.
