KENNEWICK, Wash. - There is lots of great food down at the Water Follies including what is described as the best philly cheesesteak around and the recipe itself did come from the east coast.
The sandwich is infamous with fresh beef, a nice helping of cheese, and the not-so-common options of mushrooms, peppers, and other vegetables.
The really neat thing about Mr. Pro's is Mr. Pro himself, better known as John Probasco. He's a former Pasco Police officer. Mr. Pro's was his side job (he used to have a shop in Pasco) but now he's retired both from Pasco Police after more than 27 years this past spring and from the sandwich business. Now the sandwiches are only around at big events like the Water Follies. There's also a Mr. Pro's tent on the Pasco side.
"The guy that's over there has learned from me and he knows how to season the meat and that's the key that makes ours different from somebody else's. The fact that we have our own seasonings we use. Super secret," Probasco said.
Probasco grew up in south New Jersey and that is where his love of philly cheesesteaks stems from. He said back there they have cheesesteak places like we have taco trucks.
