'Suspicious' Fire Destroys Two Buildings On Upriver Drive

Posted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash. -

Firefighters were called a grass fire that quickly spread to two structures Friday evening, and they are calling it suspicious.

The fire started around 7:00pm Friday on North Upriver Drive and East Buckeye. The flames originated in a grass field and quickly spread to a shed and another house. Officials say the house had never been rebuilt from a fire that killed two people back in 2005, so they took a defensive approach for the safety of the firefighters.

As the fire spread, power lines nearby began to arc and spark smaller grass fires, though crews were able to expand their efforts to extinguish those flames as well.

Witnesses reported seeing a suspicious person in the area shortly before the fire started and right now authorities are looking for that suspect.
